"BEHIND THE SCENES AT TAWHITI MUSEUM"

PORTRAIT OF NIGEL OGLE
by Cecilia Russell  2012

oils and mixed media on marine plywood 1200x1200mm

This portrait is my homage to Nigel Ogle who continues to create Tawhiti Museum in South Taranaki.
This place is a world-class experience.

Nigel's scale and life-size models bring to life the rich history of this region.

This painting is an illustrative and detailed piece - like the man and his work….

...the models have come to life to to play out their own narrative, trading Nigel’s paints for muskets.

(SEE DETAIL BELOW)

The montage border represents glimpses that the public see on their visit to the museum,
and is an indication of just part of his fascinating and well-researched showpiece.

The painted centre shows Nigel ‘behind the scenes’, in another real world, practicing his

art, portraying his love and knowledge of his subject - Taranaki and its history.
